When we are open to possibilities, we are led to new avenues of adventure...
paths we may have passed by or "saved" for another time.

We may just be surprised with the chance meetings we are drawn to, when we take a moment and get out of the "plans" we set up for ourselves.

When last minute cancellations come to me, my first inclination is to panic...(Lemons). Then, I get hold of myself, take a deep breath and look at the situation as a doorway to something I hadn't previously considered (Lemonade).

When a quarter page ad was cancelled at the last minute, I took a deep breath and an idea came to me that I had put off to look into for another time.

An amazing door opened as I visited a website, I had been meaning to view. Connie Amstone, a friend of mine, opened Serenity Quest, Inc. many years back--a group acting as a clearinghouse for a variety of community services such as temporary housing, educational opportunities, workshops, events, counseling and other recovery-based assistance.

When it needed to close it's doors, Connie wanted to take the inspirational writings and group consciousness to the Internet to share with a larger audience.

She works very hard at timely updates, finding a wide array of inspirational articles and offering a selection of pages where readers can ask questions and communicate with others. Serenity Quest will have an entry page on The Messenger site which will act as a doorway for these thoughtful sharings. You can find out more by checking out their page on The Messenger site.

So, much to my pleasure, that original quarter page (in the hard copy issue of The Messenger) has been put to very good use!

When we are open to possibilities, we are led to new avenues of adventure...paths we may have passed by or "saved" for another time. We may just be surprised with the chance meetings we are drawn to, when we take a moment and get out of the "plans" we set up for ourselves.

Occasionally, those plans are only a means to move us in a particular direction. open yourself to the "disappointments" that come to you. How could they be viewed differently? What gift is hidden in the barrage of self-pity rain clouds we send out, when changes occur unexpectedly?

Take some time this month to step out in a new direction. The friend who has been inviting you to their favorite gathering, that you have been trying to avoid...The new person at work, who no one has had time to talk with...A new diner that you have been meaning to try...A class in pottery, photography, drawing--something you have had a tug in your heart to do.

It is those very "tugs" that act as directional signs, pulling or pushing us along to the destinations and meeting places we don't even know we are longing to find.

This world is about relationships...it is how we communicate and learn and experience the richness of life. Think of some of the people in your life...what gifts have they opened to you--new kinds of music, different activities, an appreciation for a particular sport, a new author or poet--offering you an ability to appreciate an arena of life to which you had not previously been open.

At one level it is about risk, about taking chances, about change. But then, we are a life form and without change, we atrophy--begin to shrivel up inside--limited by the extent of our knowing. Possibly even thinking that our knowing is all there is, or that our knowing is 100% bonafide Correct. It is only from exposing ourselves and our ideas to other thinking and experiences that we can test what it is that we "know". When new ideas come to us, it is our task to hold them up to our current beliefs and see which we want to continue with...which speaks to us as truth.

And the lemons? Use them as the gift they are meant to be.

Blessing,

Joann Turner
